The Spinney: Landscapes of The Edgeland

The Spinney is a wooded copse found in the edgelands of the South Downs and Brighton & Hove. Thought to have been a nothing more than a strip of overgrowth on the edge of a 50’s development of bungalows, research revealed it to be the upper boundary to Woodendean Hall. The project considered the social and geographical gaps that affect our experience of the world.

Landscapes of The Edgeland was an exhibition of Rachael Adams’ paintings, photography, artifacts and graphic and published works held at The Martyrs’ Gallery, Lewes in East Sussex in 2017.

The Spinney (as a Place in my Mind) was an Arts Council supported research and development project which explored the Spirit of Place of fringe landscapes (2015).
